By ChattyParrot, on March 12th, 2012% I have a 5 year old female cockatiel and I’m concerned about her. For the last few days, I’ve noticed her sitting with her tail feathers lifted or angled somewhat upwards and I’m concerned about why she would be doing this. I’ve never seen this behavior from her before. Anyone have any idea why she might be doing this? She has a very large cage, so I’m sure it’s not a matter of feeling cramped. It’s not normal for her, but nothing else seems out of place. Just not sure what the issue could be. . .

By ChattyParrot, on March 11th, 2012% I got some nature’s miracle to use around the house (I got a ferret.. he likes to have accidents, and I thought it might help with bird poo also) and I sprayed it last night only to discover it smells like alcohol. Reading the ingredients, it contains rubbing alcohol, probably to help it evaporate.
So, the question is, can I use this in the same room (or even house) as Angel?

By ChattyParrot, on March 10th, 2012% We would like to paint the inside of our house. We are owned by 2 Blue and Gold Macaws, a Congo African Grey, a Nanday Conure and a Cockatiel. Is there a non toxic indoor house paint available on the market? Finding a place and moving 5 birds to another location with their huge cages, etc., would be a very difficult task. Is anyone aware of a 100% safe paint or other options that could keep my birds safe in their own home? Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated please.

I’ve seen it advertised at stores like petsmart in the reptile section, but I was wondering if it would be okay to use for birds?

By ChattyParrot, on March 9th, 2012% our boy cockateil has a chirping fit every once and a while.. a chirp every few seconds and can last for hours. we tried to look it up and some people think he tried to get our attention but we missed it. for some reason theres nothing consistant that makes him stop. he chirps with treats or food in his mouth, when we give him attention, or even if we lock him up. anyone know why he would do that?

By ChattyParrot, on March 9th, 2012% So, I have a bit of a frustrating situation on my hands.
My girlfriend adopted our green cheek, Robo, almost two years ago. He’s almost three years old now. For the first year and a half, he stayed with my girlfriend and was nothing but sweet to both of us. When we moved in together, our new apartment wouldn’t allow us to keep Robo so we had him stay with my parents for seven months. We still visited him on a regular basis and he seemed perfectly content.
Now, seven months later, we’ve moved in to a new apartment and have brought Robo back to live with us. He stays in the living room where I spend most of my time and we get along perfectly fine. He’s a tad bit nippy from time to time with me, but never to a ridiculous point. My girlfriend, however, he has started to literally attack.

By ChattyParrot, on March 9th, 2012% We have a pair of Cockatiels that wont stop laying eggs. They laid 4 eggs and hatched 3 of them. We let the parents feed for about 3 weeks then took babies and started hand feeding. We removed the nest so they could have a few months of recovery time. This is their second clutch, hatched 5 eggs in Oct. About 1 1/2 weeks after removing the nest we found an egg on the bottom of cage. Then 2 days later found another. They were both broken. Now the Mama and Papa are shredding paper as if wanting to build a nest.
Should we allow them to set on eggs if anymore are laid? Was wanting to wait about 3 or 4 months so the Mama could rebuild her strength again.
Thanks Mark

By ChattyParrot, on March 8th, 2012% I just bought a little bottle of this stuff at the pet store yesterday. It was primarily an impulse buy. It was cheap so I figured if it was crap i wasn’t going to lose out a whole lot. For the time being I’ve been giving my conure bottled water.
This stuff claims to remove ammonia and chlorine from tap water, making it safe for bird consumption. In addition to that, it also adds electrolytes and fun stuff. (birdygatorade?) However, aside from calcium, the bottle does not detail what else is in it. This has made me all skeptical and I’m not sure if I want to just start adding it to my bird’s water. Thus far I haven’t been able to find a single review online about the stuff. Has anyone used this before? Thoughts?

By ChattyParrot, on March 8th, 2012% Hi,
I have african grey parrot breeding pair. After 3-yrs of effort i could breed them last year. But do not know whats problem my male grey ate 2-chicks in it and spoiled my effort. And later after 8-months of time they have laid again. Pls let me know what to do as i fear the male may repeat the same culture of eating its chicks. Is it cannibalism or else. If so can i overcome this nor let me seperate male from female and chicks before hatching. By doing so does female cooperates by raising chicks without partner. Pls guide me its very urgent.
You can reach me on nagu_jain@yahoo.com or nagaraju.jain@gmail.com
Thanking you,
Nagaraju Jain.

By ChattyParrot, on March 7th, 2012% Hi everyone, I’m having some problems with my 3 year old female green cheek conure. Basically verre since I got her, when she was about 6 months old, shes been coming to the bottom of her cage at night and pecks at the wires and makes a bunch of racket. She sleeps in my bedroom, so she keeps me up most nights. Ive tried a few things to help calm her down, I’ve covered her cage with a cloth completely, and partially so she can see out, I’ve put in a night light. These haven’t helped, and I’ve noticed she’s started plucking herself a little and I’m getting concerned. I’ve got a “hidey hut” that she sleeps in at the top of her cage. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? How did you fix it? Let me know if you need more information.

But further close glances showed that a lot of water was spilled on the floor…..and my cockatiels are having a lot of fun… By looking at the pics…..does it look like they are plucking?? or is this just a result of them being in the water for some time??
