By ChattyParrot, on March 2nd, 2012% I bought a jeenday conure three days ago. The first night I got her she was a bit bity but she’s calm down a lot. I have 4 other birds that she doesn’t seem interested in. I want her to stay wiht my while I’m laying down or stay on my shoulder whenever I’m up and about the house but either she tries to fly to her perch or she climbs up my head all the time. Any tips to get her to stay with me ? She’ll let me pet her and hold her its just when I’m laying down she’ll fly to her cage or when I have her on my shoulder sh’ll climb to the top of my head. And also I want her to bond to me but working 40 hours a week I’m scared that she won’t get used to me handling her. I mean I have her all the . . . → Read More: tips with new bird

By ChattyParrot, on March 1st, 2012% I am looking to adopt an african grey parrot and I live in Spokane Wa. area and can’t pay for one , I do have experience with parrots ,I lost mine in July 2011. These scammers are so mean and heartless, they are just evil people. I have money to feed one I just can’t afford a thousand to buy one, and I would rather give one a home who is in need of one. anyway lol

By ChattyParrot, on March 1st, 2012% I have two Parakeets that almost constantly squawk for food. I feed them three times a day, they are not overweight, and they will eat nothing but seeds. They have increased this behavior recently. Please, no advice. I have already asked for, received, and followed it…nothing works. I give them a fortified mix, plus another seed mix with veggies. Are they just spoiled brats?

By ChattyParrot, on February 28th, 2012% I just got him about 2 weeks ago, he is 2 and a half months old according to the lady I got him from. He seems very clumsy and falls off his perches, and chairs etc. His feet don’t seem to be able to hang on very well. I’m just wondering if this is normal. I have a Solomon Island Eclectus male who is a year old and when I got him he was sure steady and a good flyer, so I’m not used to this little guy, he is really sweet, eats constantly, and loves to be in the action and go everywhere. Does anyone have any advice for me? Oh and my Eclectus does not like this little guy, I have to keep them totally apart or he will go after him.
Thanks Michele

By ChattyParrot, on February 28th, 2012% I try to be careful and I try to do everything right. Then, one day, I make a small but very fateful error. Yesterday, I didn’t lock the cage before I left (in a rush) for work. My tiels got out and Perry got stuck under our rattan sofa.
I rescued him from the sofa an didn’t see anything physically wrong with him. He is molting as well, so a few feathers here and there didn’t surprise me. I thought everything was fine. This morning, Perry’s right eye was red and swollen. Crap.
Went to the vet and he pushed away some of Perry’s feathers on his head to reveal that he had scratched or bumped himself somehow. It looked so bad. It didn’t look like that the night before and I thought I looked throughly enough.
I received ointment which I am to put in both eyes twice a day for . . . → Read More: I’m a TERRIBLE bird mom!!
By ChattyParrot, on February 27th, 2012% Oh my gosh was I surprised when we brought him home.
We went to pick him up and the poor guy was terrified. He was in a rusty cage with an old rope toy and a bell that was broken. The old owners tried removing him from the cage and he was not having it, he got so upset that he threw up everywhere. Well we get him home and I begin to clean the vomit from his cage (where I can reach). We knew he was stressed and were planning on leaving him alone for the day but it seemed he didn’t want that. With in 10 minutes of being home he was talking and seemed very interested in us. Day 2 we left his cage door open and he finally cage out, so then I proceeded to clean the inside of the cage which he spent all his time asking me . . . → Read More: Otis is home!

By ChattyParrot, on February 27th, 2012% I know there is a great deal of debate on what food is best and I am always afraid of toxins and/or bad ingredients. However, I did quite a bit of research and what I found is I like what I heard from Nutri- Berries Labefer. They were the most interactive of all the companies, willing to answer anything. Sending a great sample pack, much larger and more informative than other sample packs.
What I found out is it does NOT contain Ethoxyquin, but a natural preservative. If you look on your Roudybush (even sample I got last week) Ethoxyquin is still listed on Roudybush. When I called them up about it they simply said “Tom Roudybush feeds it to all his birds and there is no problem”. There may not be, but I don’t want it in my food.
I also agree with Monica, about Fruit Zupreem, it was all Roger . . . → Read More: Nutri Berries Seem Quite Good As Daily Diet
By ChattyParrot, on February 27th, 2012% Out of all 5 eggs. 5 hatched. Casper and snow are very good parents. Prolly going to have to start hand feeding sooner than expected because of there being 5 and this is the most they have delt with. Lucky me 2 that hatched are lutino. One looks to be a dominate grey from the dark pins starting to grow in. The other 2. No idea yet. I just know I have 2 white face lutinos!
Here’s a group pic of everyone snuggling.
This is he oldest lutino baby. One week today. First hatched
This is the younger lutino. 4th hatched.
Thanks

By ChattyParrot, on February 26th, 2012% I bought a baby Sun Conure today from a breeder, who has been breeding for 20 yrs, he is handfed and tamed and is the sweetest thing ever. I am kind of concerned though. He is sleeping at the bottom of the cage in the corner. I can walk over to the cage and look in and he will let out a subtle sound. He is as well standing on one foot while sleeping, with his head turned all the way around. This is the first time I have ever owned a Conure of any sort. He seems very healthy, and was very active for a while. Also had a 1h and a half drive home from the breeder. Would love to get all the answers/advice I can.
Thanks
