My Cockatiel had been spending a lot of time prancing around on top of the Parakeets cages. One of them appeared to be sick for a few days. Scruffy looking, fluffed up, and sleeping a lot. Today he seems to be recovering just fine. His eating and droppings never changed. I put a towel over the top of the cage a couple of days ago and the Cockatiel stopped his visits. I’m thinking his absence had something to do with the recovery. Whaddyathink? Hat Tip To: BirdBoard.Com – Parrot Message Board & Pet Bird Owner Forums – Bird Health & Safety Hi Guys. I got a cockatiel a couple of months ago. When i got him i noticed an area around his right eye was missing it’s feathers. As they started to grow back i didn’t pay much attention. But later on i saw that the ones that grew back were kind of hard and they began closing over his eye lid. and now his eye is almost completely blocked. . I’d take him to a vet but there aren’t any where i live and i have to go all the way to the capital so i decided to ask here first before i go. Here are some pictures: the first 2 are from about a week ago, the third one is from just now (you can see it’s spread even more) and the 4th is his left (healthy) eye. Thanks in advance for any help. Regards. Zvezko Hat Tip . . . → Read More: Cockatiel Eye Problem I got my little baby in October, he was hatched May 8, 2011. I got him from a pet store. I have tried everything to get him to come to me instead of fly away. He doesn’t bite…just runs. I want him to be a sweet little companion that will step up and want to be with me. I don’t know what I am doing wrong, or not doing at all. I let him hang out with his cage open…he usually will chill on the door of his cage, I try to give him treats but he won’t let me get close enough to even take them from me. I’ve read about clicker training and all that…but I don’t see how it would work for a bird that wont come close to me. Is it because he’s young? Or am I doing something wrong?? I had always dreamed of welcoming a bird into my life, and I was finally given the opportunity to select a young cockatiel of my very own. I thought I wanted a colorful male bird that I could teach to whistle and sing, so I went to a local breeder to choose between 2 lutinos. Never did I expect a little whiteface hen I had overlooked would take such a interest in me. That little bird squaked once, flew to my shoulder and stayed there. The problem is, he was a breeder and his mate died and so the owner brought him to the pet store. He won’t come out of his cage, even if you leave the door open and walk away. He just stays in his case. He won’t let you handle him unless you catch him with a towel and hold him that way. The pet store doesn’t have any bird handling gloves. She is really interested in him but $350 to buy him, plus food, a cage, and toys is a lot of money to spend on a bird that won’t leave his cage unless he is caught. Hello! I am new here, but I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posts on conures! I have had my pineapple gc for about 6 months. Her name is Echo, and she is such a great bird I don’t know how I ever went so long with out having a gc in my home!!! Before I got her, and still now I come on here to learn as much as I can about green cheeks. I must say, I have learned things I could never have known on my own. I have owned parakeets in the past, and also have 2 lovebirds now, but they are nothing like my gc. We are going to be adding a regular gc within the next month or so, so she will have a friend ( fingers crossed that they get along in the future) and someone else to make our family smile everyday! . . . → Read More: Hello Before you spaz…. lol Question : hands down, which is better (for a blue and gold macaw) , ZUPREEM or TROPICAN or KAYTEE EXACT? He sat on my desk lamp for a few minutes seeming fine (after I picked him up) he was awake and his normal self. I noticed one foot started to slip, and he went with it. His feet were balled up, I’ve had him in the kitchen for the last 45 minutes – he kept his eyes closed and feet balled up.
